PVT Charles Curtis Whitfield entered the US Army from Kinston, North Carolina. He served with Company B, 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam from October 10, 1965 until he was killed on February 24, 1966. His death occurred in Binh Duong Province, South Vietnam. He died of hostile multiple fragmentation wounds. His name is located at panel 05E, line 75 of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C.
His awards include the Purple Heart Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
