CPL Able Croom Stroud III entered the US Army from La Grange, North Carolina. He served with Company A, 3rd Battalion, 22nd Infantry, 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam from August 24, 1967 until he was killed on January 2, 1968. At the time of his death he was at Tay Ninh Province, South Vietnam. He died on multiple fragmentation wounds. His name is located at panel 33E, line 24 of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C.

His awards include the Combat Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
