Burl P Robinson served in the United States Navy during World War II from September 29, 1943 until March 26, 1946. He was posted aboard a transport, the USS Dorothea L Dix. He also served aboard the USS San Jacinto (CVL 30), a small air carrier. On D-Day, June 6, 1944, he was involved in ferrying troops to Omaha Beach. He also participated in the invasion of Southern France.

As the war was winding down in Europe, on Christmas Day 1944, he was posted to the Pacific Theatre. There he participated in the invasion of Okinawa by ferrying US Army troops to the beaches.
