John Moore was born and raised in Greene County near Hookerton and Maury. He now lives at Farmville, North Carolina. John served over twenty-eight years in the North Carolina Army National Guard. His unit was the 691st Maintenance Company, 690th Maintenance Battalion. John served in many capacities including the Company First Sergeant. During Operation Desert Storm in 1991, this unit served with distinction. His military awards include the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal.
John is co-host with Joe Albea of a popular TV show, The Carolina Outdoor Journal. He serves the Community Relations Coordinator of Greenville Salvation Army. He is on the Board of Directors for the Pitt County Council of Aging. He is former member of the Pitt County Planning Board.
He was chosen to be Grand Marshall of the Salute! A Tribute to America’s Veterans Parade during Veteran’s Day Festival on November 8, 2008.
