Born February 15, 1835 in Jones County. At the age of about 26 years in late 1861 or 1862, he joined up with the Eighth Battalion, North Carolina Partisan Rangers, and Sixty-Sixth Regiment North Carolina troops, commanded by Colonel John N. Nethercutt.
In defense of the Confederate cause, he was wounded and left for dead, laying on his back. A Union soldier came along and turned him over on his stomach and this saved his life.
When he was released from duty, he returned home, raised a family and lived until his death on September 15, 1885.
