Charles Henry Jackson was born in Wayne County, North Carolina in March of 1925. Raised inside of Duplin County, he was the eldest son of Henry and Gertie Jackson. Charles entered the United States Navy in 1942 at the age of 17 with parental permission. Upon graduation from Naval Basic Training, Charels was assigned to the Destroyer USS Maddox (DD-622). THe Maddox was sunk after sustaining bomb damage from German aircraft on 10 July 1943. Charles was listed by the United States Government as Missing in Action. No remains were ever located.

Charles Henry Jackson is memorialized on the Wall of the Missing in the National Cemetery in Sicily. His name also appears on a memorial aboared the USS North Carolina.
