Wade H. Humphrey, Jr. joined the US Navy on May 19, 1951 in Kinston, North Carolina. He received basic training in Bainbridge, Maryland. He remained at Bainbridge for two years while assigned to the security division and the baseball team. He was assigned aboard the USS Hendly DD 762 on July 4, 1953. For the next two years, his ship visited Korea, cruised the North Atlantic, the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. He was discharged on May 13, 1955 at Norfolk, Virginia.
After his service in the Navy, he was employed in the sales section of Delta Air Lines for thirty-four years. He retired on April 1, 1989. He and his wife Doris have two sons, Travis and Timothy. The Wades now make their home in Cary, North Carolina.
