John Franklin Harper, “Frank”, was born May 25, 1910 in Lenoir County, North Carolina. He was a Medical Aidman during World War II, serving in the Normandy Campaign. He received one Bronze Battle Star, the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was wounded in action and returned to his hometown of Kinston. He served in the elected position of Constable for many years. When the county did away with that office, he joined the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Department from which he later retired. He died December 21, 1993
