JD was born December 3, 1926 to James A Gladson Sr and Penny Jenkins Gladson. He was one of ten children, five boys and five girls. Four of the boys served in the armed services. JD served after World War II and before the Korean Conflict, during the time of the Occupational Army. He served as a cook in Kunsan, Korea.
