Dr. Louis Justus Dupree, Jr., local dentist, served 38 years in service. He entered Emory University after graduating from the University of North Carolina as a dental student. His senior year the A.S.T.P (Army Specialized Training Program) took over. He finished dental school and went into the Navy where he was based at Parris Island in South Carolina for a short time. The war ended and he went home to Kinston, North Carolina where he practiced dentistry with his father, Dr. Louis J. Depree, Sr., who retired later from the army as a Col. Louis stayed in the Navy for a while, then transferred to the Army Reserves where he stayed for a number of years. Soon after this he transferred to the National Guard for several years, then he went back to the Army Reserve for quite a number of years. He finally retired from the Army Reserve after 38 years in service.

Dr. Dupree was honored at a retirement party at the Ft. Bragg Officers Club by his superiors with several hundred people including many officers and friends from eastern North Carolina, including his wife Iris and other family friends.
