David Brian Cook was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on May 27, 1969. He attended West Charlotte High School where he graduated in 1988. He enlisted in the United States Army as an Ammunitions Specialist in September 1993 and received basic training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. After Basic Training, he attended Advanced Training for his specialty at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, before serving with the 41st Ordinance Company in Kaiserslautern, Germany from 1994 to 1997.

After completing his enlisted tour, he attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he received his Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice and his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Finance Corps in 1999. He is a graduate of the Finance Officer Basic Course and served as both a Finance Officer and a Jumpmaster with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

He deployed with the 82nd Airborne Division in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and provided finance support in both Pakistan and Qatar from July 2002 through November 2002.

Major Cook is a graduate of the Finance Captains’ Career Course at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He has earned a Masters of Science in Finance from Webster University. After completion, he served in Korea. with the Second Infantry Division.

In 2007, he enter the Whitman School of Business Masters program at Syracuse University. While there he earned a Masters in Program Administration and also a Masters in Business Administration. After completion, he was assigned to the Seventh Army Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany. In 2010 he served as Finance Officer for The First Armored Division in Iraq.

His awards include the Senior Parachutist Badge, Four Army Commendation Medals, the Army Achievement Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, two National Defense Service Medals, the Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Army Service Ribbon, among others.

Major Cook is married to the former Sabrina Schotte. He is the father of three children, David Brian Cook, Jr., Tiffany Amber Cook, and Dylan Alexander Cook. He is the son of Herman and Bonnie McLawhorn of Kinston, North Carolina and the late James E. and Chris Cook of Charlotte, North Carolina.
